Professional Background
I’ve worked for many years building industrial software systems. Most of this work has been in manufacturing, creating systems that interact with automated equipment and manage the manufacturing process. I’ve worked in factories that make semiconductors, chicken nuggets, aluminium, beer, apple sauce, laundry detergent, bologna, and many other things.
I’ve worked as a developer, manager, leader, and consultant. I’m good at communicating with factory workers, engineers, executives. I can explain technical concepts to these various stakeholders, presenting the context that is pertinent to their perspective. Most importantly, I can actively listen and understand their point of view and needs.

Skills
In addition to my professional skill set, I’ve developed a working knowledge of other domains.
Mechanical / Electrical
As long as I can remember, I’ve taken things apart (and mostly put back together) to understand how they work. I’ve built and rebuilt many mechanical and electrical systems over the years.
Woodworking
My dad taught me woodworking when I was young, and I’ve been doing it all my life. I have working knowledge of many woodworking tools.
Photography
I’ve been an amateur photographer since the days of 35mm and darkrooms.
Passions
Music
I’m an active music fan, enjoying all sorts of music. I mostly listen to indie rock and folk. I’m a proponent of directly supporting musicians; purchasing music on bandcamp and attending live shows.
Social Justice
I’ve always been empathetic, and my career has given me the opportunity to travel all of the world and gain perspective on how other people and cultures live. It is a gift to be able (and willing) to take on the perspective of others.
The murder of George Floyd provoked me to become more active and educated about the systems in the US and the world that marginalize, discriminate against, and criminalize many people.
NeuroDiversity
I’m only recently beginning to understand and appreciate my own neurodivergence and that in others. It’s a subject that I’m currently learning about.
